Building Confidence: "Conflict Reveals What You Care About the Most"

What is confidence? How do we develop it?

These are questions Amanda Hennessey asks on her podcast “Building Confidence.”

I was honored to be a guest in one of her episodes. We talked in-depth about how I came to start The Center For Women’s Voice: flash back to my days as a professional development facilitator for the Department of Navy. I traveled to bases all over the world - including Guantanamo Bay- to educate soldiers and marines about sexual assault, prevention, and response in the military. When I was training for this position, my boss encouraged me to rely on my male co-facilitator if I had trouble communicating to the predominantly male audience.

I knew there had to be a better way.

That experience showed me how critical it is to create spaces where women are supported to use their authentic voices and expect to be truly heard. For women who work in male-dominated rooms or industries, in particular, finding ways to tap into confidence instead of fear is essential.

Listen to the podcast to hear  about what confidence means to me, my views on confronting conflict head-on, and the rewarding experiences of being a coach and entrepreneur.
