Wiggle Self Care Into Your Work Day

All too often we think of self care as something that you do in your spare time, and that’s if you even have any extra time at all. But self care isn’t just bubble baths, candles, or cooking a nice meal. We love those habits, of course, but there are different self care practices that you can utilize throughout the day and yes, even at work. You are spending about 40 hours a week, or 2,080 hours a year, working. Neglecting self care during those hours can lead to stress and burnout. A burnt out version of you is not the best version of you so here’s some self care tips to wiggle into the workplace to make sure you are thriving.

Create Your Space

Make your workspace, your workspace. You want it to be an area you feel comfortable and happy in. Personalize your work haven in a way that best suits your needs. Whether that means choosing a standing desk or an exercise ball chair, plants, or family pictures. Be intentional about creating a zen space for yourself. Clear up any clutter and get organized so that your work area is relaxing and free of distractions.

Practice Saying “No”

This applies to your life in general but work can be one of the more difficult places to know when to say “no.” It’s tempting to take on every project or task that comes your way because of the need to prove yourself and be a reliable "yes woman." Saying ‘yes’ too much will quickly lead you to have too much on your plate and being spread too thin. It’s much better to complete a few projects really well than a whole bunch of projects that are just okay. Learn your limits. Then only take on the amount of work that allows you to maintain a quality of work you are proud of.

 Know Your Worth

I see you. Putting your passion and energy into your career. If you are working hard day in and day out but feel underpaid or underappreciated...it’s time to take a look at that. Your intuition is there for a reason. Knowing your worth leads to a more fulfilling career and beyond that, will extend to your life outside of work.  Ask for that raise or promotion that you know you deserve but have been putting off until “the right time.” Or maybe your sense of worth shows up in the way you relate to time - do you need to readjust your schedule to fit your lifestyle? If you don’t know where to start, this is an area  I can help you with. All you have to do is reach out!

Self-care is so important. We can apply it intentionally to every aspect of our lives. If the need for a little more self-care is speaking to you right now take a look at our upcoming Ritual: Release and Renew event.
